Words of praise for our team from residents & their families

Dear Island Nursing and Rehab

I am writing to you on behalf of my sisters and myself. We want to thank you, your nursing staff and aides for the exceptional care they gave to our mother while she resided at your facility. The decision that you can no longer care for a loved one at home is always a difficult one that affects both parent and siblings physically and mentally. Our mother’s transition was easier than we ever expected due to the overall atmosphere of how she felt cared for, loved and respected by your staff, yourself included.

Mom was comfortable and accepting in a very short time and for that we are truly grateful, especially knowing that she was not the easiest person to please and care for. We apologize for the many unpleasant events that took place but which were handled with compassion and professionalism. Thank you again for administrating a facility that Allows residents to live out their remaining years with dignity.

Please share this letter with all those very special people that touched our lives. God bless.

I was just discharged from Island Nursing and Rehab. I just wanted to say what a great Rehab Group of therapists you have working there. They are respectful, jolly and friendly. Your Director is a wonderful person in charge and so is the staff. Thank you for all of your help

Two weeks ago our Mom passed away at Island Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a resident since December 2012. Having broken a hip in March 2011, and enduring a number of medical issues and hospitalizations, she was in several nursing and rehab homes, but it was at island that she was treated with care, respect, dignity, and affection. And, we are truly grateful that in her final months she was treated so well.

There are staff members that we never met who cared for her, and we thank them. For those we did meet on Unit 3, we appreciate all they did to make Mom comfortable.

But, there are several we would like to thank for their dedication to their calling, and most especially to the care of our Mom. Mom’s nurse had the responsibility of daily treatments and wrapping of her foot (wound). An extremely painful experience for Mom (requiring medication) her nurse talked with Mom to calm her, telling her jokes, and doing her best to make her comfortable. She is a gem and she is your employee of the month! Mom was always attired with attention to comfort, groomed well, and seated correctly in her chair. On return for a hospitalization we got to meet one of your per diem supervisors. She prayed with Mom to calm her, spent needed time with Mom and with us, to ensure questions were answered. She inspires trust, and is a true asset for you.

And finally, thank you to the recreation staff who also showed care and affection for our Mom (and all resident). On learning that Mom had been a thrifty shopper that enjoyed reading through circulars, they’d see that Mom had a weekly supply. Also, her Social Worker at Island was available for calls, questions and concerns.

It would have been lovely for Mom to have been at island earlier on in her declining years, but we are so thankful that she spent her final days cared for by people who knew her, and not in a hospital.

When our Mother’s rehabilitation neared an end at Island Nursing, we had the task of finding a safe place for her to live.

After much consideration, we realized that in-home care would not work for her and that her safety issues would be better addressed in a nursing home. We hoped that she could stay at Island because the care she received there was superb, and the entire staff is very pleasant and always eager to please.

We understood that arranging this was not an easy matter and that a lot of time and effort would go into securing a bed for her. When you and your staff were able to make arrangements that allowed our Mother to stay at your facility, we truly appreciated all your efforts on her behalf.

We take comfort in knowing our Mother will receive the best care and that her remaining years will be pleasant and happy.

We can’t thank you enough.

It is more than a year since my mother became a resident of Island Nursing and Rehab Center. My family and I are continually amazed how well your facility is run and how very happy our dear mother is.

Your staff is always efficient and caring. Even during the hectic holiday season, there was a sense of calm and cheerfulness that allowed the residents to thrive because of your staff’s attitude and aptitude.

We want to thank you especially because your leadership qualities make all the difference to many people; those who are aware, those who may not be capable of voicing a compliment and those who are indebted to you for making the last years of a relative’s life positive in every was possible.

Please accept this donation in memory of my relative who passed last week. Thank you for the wonderful care she received at Island Nursing and Rehab Center and the thoughtfulness your staff provided to the family. The family was opposed to placing Mom in a skilled nursing facility but their experience at Island certainly was a positive one and made a difficult situation the best it could be.

Thank you again.
